September 16 News- Google is launching a blog finding service- Link here not sure what this will mean for me (or anyone else) - I am sure someone will fill me in.... Mona LisaCheck this out mona lisa constructed entirely of rubics cubes- who are these people????? don't they have anything to do with their lives other than this? and why on earth did they suddenly think- I know what I am missing in my life- a mona lisa made entirely from rubics cubes.
Why, why why? doctors and nursesThis article has made me annoyed. As someone who knows quite a few doctors, I know that they are constantly frustrated by patients who think that they know more about medicine than they do. Many have had patients (completely wrongly!) complaining that the doctor didn't prescribe this or that drug (because it worked so well for their friend Maud) and that the doctor doesn't know what they are doing because they are giving chest x-rays to children who are vomiting (pneumonia is a common reason for young children vomiting) etc.
It is a fact that the most any of us really know about our bodies and how they work was probably gained from year 12 biology and did not extend into university. Very few of us have studied medicine, and even fewer have gained postgraduate qualifications that allow us specialise. Therefore, very few of us are actually in any position to judge a doctors competence or incompetence. This is why medical review boards are there- because the government recognises that you must be highly trained in this area to pass judgement. 'Consumer sites' for doctors are clearly unfair as it does not allow for doctors to defend themselves.
Now before you jump up and down and say that there is a similar situation on consumer websites about products etc. remember- Doctors are people- you wouldn't like it if there were websites (administered by people who had no idea about your line of business) slagging you off and saying you were incompetent without any substantiation either.
I think a little less slandering and a little more trust is required here. I understand that some doctors are incompetent and their licenses should be revoked but trial by media (which this, in effect is) is unfair on all levels, particularly where the person being dragged through the mud isn't even asked their opinion.
Or maybe I am just watching a bit too much MDA! September 14 Post SecretEveryone I know is reading this blog- even the people who don't really know what blogs are. It is slightly disturbing at times and quite dark but I have to keep reading it just to see what happens next. Can't figure out how to subscribe to it though. If Goths ruled the earthThis is quite an interesting site- has photoshop entries from a whole group of people for a 'if goths ruled the world' exhibition- an example: A gothic ronald macdonald September 13 IKEACrazy stuff- according to Boing Boing Ikea are building some flat pack houses in Ireland. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I see a bit of a flaw in this plan. Anyone who has ever tried to assemble anything from Ikea knows that it is not usually as easy as it seems. I was once reduced almost to tears over a simple shelving unit which came in an (allegedly) easy-to-assemble flat pack. I don't even want to think about what assembling a whole house would be like. Also I don't think I would want to live in a house put together entirely with an allen key- call me crazy.
That said, I love Ikea- when they come to Adelaide I will be extremely excited. Captain PlanetI grew up watching this show, but unbeknownest to me, the voices were an all-star cast. Gaia (the godlike woman who was always telling them what to do) was voiced by Whoopi Goldberg, Dr Blight was Meg Ryan and Zarm was (wait for it...) STING. I was shocked. |
